Poker Strategy: Can you beat it?
Poker is a gambling game which is beatable by its very nature. This means that it is a gamble which can be won by carefully analyzing and then creating a constructive expectation based on mathematics. This is the reason it is some times called the gamble-game of skill.
Unlike craps, which the players have some (limited) control over the rolling of the dice, poker is a game following a strategy which is often called poker strategy. Interestingly, Poker Strategy simply states that a player will gain if he makes such a move which he would have made if he knew the cards of the opponent.
Poker strategy further states that the player will gain further if his opponent makes a move different from the move which the opponent would have made if he knew the player's Card. This makes Poker gambling also the game of deception.
Poker Strategy Concepts:
Probabilities and pot odds:
Pot odds is the amount of the bet needed to stay in the pot to the size of pot. A player's odds of winning must be at least equal to the odds of his pot to have a positive expectation.
Poker Strategy of deception:
By bringing deception a player tries to make the opponent make a move differently from the condition in which the opponent would have, given the player's cards
Position in Poker Strategy:
Order of seating has the effect that players who have to make the initial moves have to have stronger hand on bet than players whose turns are to come later.
A person may call in poker strategy for the following reasons:
View more cards, avoid re-raise, pot odds manipulation, limit loss, bluffing in later round, etc.
A person may go for raise for reasons to:
Get more money in the pot when he has the best hand, get knowledge, drive away opponents, get free card or bluff etc
Concepts also include Gap, Sandwich, plays, Hand-reading, table-image, equity & short hand.
