Metal Casting For Various Uses
Metal Casting
Definition of Metal Casting Metal casting is a procedure where metal is dissolved and is poured into a shape like the required finished product. The cast metal has to be kept in the mould till it hardens. Single shape moulds would produce only one metal casting and are being used for small castings and multi-use molds are very expensive. Some moulds have the ability to produce more complex metal casting, while others have the capability to produce many metal castings from a solitary mould.
Early and Amateur Casting
Zinc is a very conducive metal for teenagers who want to do casting. It can be obtained from a scrap metal dealer. It has the capacity to melt at low temperature; it could be melted even on the stove. The important point is that it is fairly non-toxic, even less than lead.
Perhaps tin is considered the most suitable metal for amateur casting, but a drawback is that it is very costly and usually not available everywhere. It is available in big cities with exotic scrap dealers.
Casting with wax is an old technology. People are aware of this technology since the ancient age. The initial step is to make something out of wax. One thing should be noted that paraffin is not a wax. People can get bees wax easily at craft stores.
Does Metal Casting make good business sense?
During the last decade, metal casting has expanded its uses in metal machinery to include machining, heat treatment, surface treatment and sheet metal works. The streak of services starts from designing, engineering, developing, heat treating all kinds of finishing.
Casting, using various materials has become important in industry due to rise in many types of manufacturing and also due to its varied usability.
Metal Casting in Automotive Industry
Automotive casting is about Wear Resistant Castings, Corrosion Resistant Castings and the quality of cast. It is used for making brake drums, stud axles, wheel hubs, brake disks, joint pipes, pressure valves, compressors, clutch plates and gear housings. With the growth in Automobiles, the metal casting industry has also grown accordingly. Many metals are used for metal castings in automotive industry with Aluminum, Iron and Steel being the primary metals. It’s important that the melting point of mould metal is quite high so that when one pours the hot metal, mould should not melt.
With technology everywhere, metal casting is no exception. Vacuum die casting, pressure die casting and other technologies are becoming increasingly important. Technology enables better production efficiency both in terms of time and number produced.
