Craps: Gambling with dice

What is Craps:

Craps is a dice based form of gambling. Craps gambling is based on the principles of gamblers' putting up money against the outcome of the dice or rolling a series of two dice. It is different from poker in a sense that in poker psychological effects are used as a strategy. By detailed application of probability, poker strategy can be used to tilt the game to one's favor following the tactics of the betting guide. However, in Craps gambling, only the control over dice throwing mechanism can offer some help in winning the gamble.

How to play Craps:

A dice roller (shooter) rolls a pair of dice and all the bets are made on the same roll. 'Come out roll' is the first roll of the new round. The bets can be based on total of the two dice or combinations of few.

In craps, a lot of bets can be made. One such popular bet is called 'pass line' bet. On "Come-out roll", pass line bettors win if the outcome is 7 or 11. If the dice rolls out to either 2, 3 or 12 then pass line bettor loses. On rollout of any other number it's called a point in craps. On "setting of point", the shooter keeps on rolling the dice. If it rolls a point again the pass line bettor wins and if it rolls 7 first, the pass line bettor looses.

Another popular bet is "Don't pass", which is just the opposite of the pass line bet. The craps table is managed by four men, the box man (chip guard and supervisor of dealers), two base dealers standing on either sides if the box man (for collecting and paying bets), and stickman standing on the opposite of box man (for collecting dice and announcing results).

Crap Bet types:

Two types of bets are already discussed above. Other types of bets are:

Fire:

In this case, prior to rolling by the shooter, the bet of one to five Dollars is declared, expecting that the next shooter will have a hot streak. Hence, the odds of paying out keep on increasing with the next shooter.

Come:

Rules are almost alike for "Come wagers" except for the fact that they can only be made after the come-out roll. The opposite bet "Don't come" is also prevalent.

Proposition bets:

They are stated on the craps center table, they have high odds pay off but at the same time there is also a high house advantage. Some popular proposition bets include one-roll, C & E, Hop, Any Seven, field etc.

Place, buy and lay:

In this case, players place or buy the numbers (4, 5, 6, 8, 9 & 10) against their wager in the "come area" and tell the dealer.
